Period glazing works at Chatham & Clarendon House Grammar School, Ramsgate

We were delighted to undertake a range of glazing and lead light repairs to the important C19th school building.

Many in-situ repairs were made to coloured glass within the school's numerous leaded light windows. Efforts were made to only replace materials where necessary. A close match in colour and texture was made for the different colours compared to wide variety of choices made of the years!

The beautiful stained glass panels in the library (once chapel) received attention too. Overall the panels' conditions did not merit removal so a variety of sympathetic in-situ repairs were made. The external sides had plenty of deteriorated and missing putty removed and replaced with new lime mortar putty. . Leaded straps were used to maintain the slightly ageing external seals between some of the panels. Missing cement between the glass pieces and lead work were attended to.

Beautiful Goethe restoration glass was used to replace damaged original glazing in a stairwell. This beautiful colourless drawn glass has an irregular surface which catches light and reflections, making it an effortless sympathetic choice. The external putties used for repairs over the years were replaced with lime mortar putty. The external ferramenta were cleaned, treated and painted to give these a new lease of life too.
