Wonderful creative project with pupils at Godinton Primary School, Ashford, Kent.
We enjoyed a fantastic time before Christmas working with the talented pupils of Godinton Primary School in Ashford, Kent. Having visited Canterbury cathedral and being inspired by all the stained glass they saw, we were invited to demonstrate how a traditional leaded window is made and answer all their questions. It was marvellous to create an opportunity for so many to see our traditional stained glass tools and materials up close, as well as seeing lots of beautiful glass.
Our workshops contributed to the school's continual commitment of their pupils immersive experiences in the creative arts as well as supporting arts practitioners across Kent. These glass projects build on Godinton Primary School's brilliant accreditation of the ArtsMark Gold award.
We were also thrilled to introduce our glass screen printing expertise and create a series of personal and permanent art pieces for two lucky classes. Each pupil drew something that represented their class or school (a squirrel is their logo!) and another illustrating something they love.
I spent a wonderful day with the pupils helping them screen print their own personal drawings onto bright glass squares that they chose. All the school pieces were screen printed onto small colourful glass rectangles with a hole for hanging. The pupils are now tasked with working together to create their own hanging art installation somewhere in the school. It was a great moment personally delivering the classes' own keepsakes and I cannot wait to see their new display of their hanging glass work.
