Beautiful period clear glazing in Sandwich, Kent

We love working at this Victorian primary school and we've been a few times now to help out. The school feel passionately about using traditional materials to repair damage whenever they can to retain the character and authenticity of the building. The final appearance makes all the difference!

We again use the thicker Goethe glass which has a wonderful surface texture. Its brilliance really captures reflections and refracts light beautifully. It's always especially satisfying installing hand made glass into stonework.

We improved on the original installation by cutting the glass neatly to fit the stone and metal rebates and replacing the silicone sealant and linseed putty used for weather sealing. Traditional hand-mixed lime mortar putties were used instead. The steel transom bar was cleaned and treated with a rust inhibitor, painted and dressed neatly with new linseed putty. We think it looks great!
